JPG, PNG or WebP?

Start with what your destination accepts, then choose between photographic detail, transparency and file size.

JPG for everyday photos

JPG is commonly accepted by upload forms and image software. Its lossy encoding can reduce photographic file size, but repeated re-encoding may add artifacts. It does not support transparency: our converter uses a white background.

PNG for transparency and crisp graphics

PNG uses lossless compression for its pixels and supports transparency. It can be a useful choice for diagrams or graphics, but detailed photographs often produce larger files. Converting a blurry JPG into PNG will not restore lost detail.

WebP for website images

WebP supports transparency and can produce compact images. The output from this tool uses lossy WebP encoding. Check whether the destination accepts WebP before choosing it for a form or older workflow.

A practical comparison

Use the same source image in the converter, download each format and compare at the actual display size. File-size savings depend on the content; no single format wins every case.
