Size is a maximum, not an exact file size. Dimensions may be reduced to meet your limit. JPG uses a white background.

Resize without stretching

Enter a width or height in pixels. The other dimension updates automatically to preserve the original aspect ratio. In this mode, the chosen pixel dimensions are kept; there is no maximum file-size target.

Pixels and file size measure different things

Width and height describe the pixel grid. KB and MB describe the encoded file size. Two images with identical dimensions can have very different file sizes because of texture, format and compression.

Choose dimensions for the destination

For a website displaying an image at 800 pixels wide, an 800-pixel output fits that width at standard pixel density. A 1,600-pixel version may look sharper on a high-density display but can be larger. Enlarging a small image does not recover missing detail.

Need a byte limit instead? Use the image compressor. Read the file-size guide before preparing an image for an upload form.
